Shortboards, high performance or performance surfboards have changed a lot in recent years. Generally pitched at a higher level of surfer, a shorter board is anything under 6’6. 

From when surfing was more commonly split into longboarding and shortboarding, now we have small surfboards for small waves, often called grovellers.

Twin fin shortboard surfboards have also diversified and it’s no longer certain that a twin fin is a fish, with the likes of the twin pin surfboard becoming popular. Twin fin surfboards offer the advanced surfer a different feel to a thruster (three fin). Described as being more fast, loose and responsive, they can be a great choice for sometimes poor UK surf conditions.

Changes in the specifications of a small surfboard, like shape, size, rocker and other factors, will affect how the board feels to the surfer and which surfboard is best for which conditions.
